Primo Sangiovese Merlot 2009 Ortona

Tasting Notes:
Good depth of colour with the Merlot giving the naturally light Sangiovese a boost. On the nose, it is open and appealing, with perfumes of plums and ripe red fruit, a touch of spice and lovely rounded tannins on the palate. Its chunky, plummy fruit character is lifted by the fresher Sangiovese and given an attractive length and elegance as a result.

These wines are made by Marco Flacco of Gran Sasso, and have a
similar imprint of freshness and vibrancy of fruit. The Malvasia is made
from grapes that were planted to provide an aromatic dimension in
the blend of Trebbiano díAbruzzo. It is clean, dry and fresh with an
attractive aniseed twist on the nose.
The Red, a blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot from Canosa in
northern Puglia, is fresh and cherryish with good weight on the palate.
This freshness is derived from the fact that the vineyards in Canosa are
situated at a slightly higher altitude, so the cooler summer nights help
increase perfumes and preserve freshness.
