Escarpment Riesling 2009 Martinborough
Producer: Escarpment
Tasting Notes:
These grapes were 100% grown from Escarpments Te Muna Road site in what can be considered a remarkable year for the variety. The wine exhibits the typical fine floral fruit characters and racy acid the variety is renowned for. An off-dry style (15 g/L sugar) has been created to ideally be enjoyed as an aperitif for something to liven up the taste buds. With such good acid/pH balance it appears on the palate more in a dry style.
Grape Variety: Riesling
ABV: 12.2%
Country/Region: New Zealand
Vintage: 2009
One of New Zealand's most famous winemakers, Larry McKenna is the man behind Escarpment. Larry's name goes hand in hand with the best quality Pinot Noir from New Zealand. The vineyards are sited above a natural escarpment above the Huarangarua River on ancient gravels. Overlooking them are the Aorangi Ranges where Maori legend has it that the Polynesian navigator Kupe abandoned 3 canoes - hence the shape. Kupe's image is on the label.
