Tasting Notes:
This wine shows typical varietal flavour, lots of spice and floral tones, it is very austere and has the typical Riesling nervousness. The palate is elegant and rich with a long lingering after taste carried by the great acidity of the wine often associated with this varietal. This wine can be enjoyed now, with slightly spicy food or cellared for a further 5 to 7 years. What a versatile wine! This is the closest you will get to a Germanic style riesling in South Africa, with high acid and floral fruit. Try it with a curry or anything spicy - and don't forget the sushi!! And to try something different, try this with red meat, esp. kudu carpaccio and beef tartare. But the usual white meat will also be sufficient.

The Cluver family bought the Elgin farm in 1896 to provide summer grazing for their livestock and in the mid 1900's it became a strong apple producing region. In the mid 1980's the area was identified as a cool climate wine-growing region which led to the first Cluver plantings in 1986 with Paul Cluver cellar being the first to be established in Elgin.
