Tasting Notes:
Torrontes has something in common with Viognier in that it is headily perfumed and full bodied but is generally dry. According to Jancis Robinson this is the 'best Fairtrade wine I have come across'- high praise indeed.. (Source; jancisrobinson.com, May 2009)

The Cooperativa Vitivinifruticola de La Rioja was founded in 1940, after moving from the province of Cordoba to La Rioja, where the climate was better suited for wine production. Today La Riojana is comprised of 510 members, including small, mid-sized and large-scale producers. The majority of La Riojana's membershave less than 8 acres of farmland. Because La Riojana is a Fair Trade cooperative ( and it was the first winery in Argentina to be certified Fairtrade), workers are guaranteed a fair price for their grapes, and receive technical assistance and advice from the Agricultural Department. Under this system, members are able to benefit from additional services such as: Guaranteed grape purchasing, access to credits, distribution of profits, technical assistance, collective frost insurance, one member-one vote voting rights, access to emergency funds, education scholarships.
