Fournier Alfa Crux Blend 2004 Mendoza

Tasting Notes:
Available in cases of 6 only. All feels very ripe with a rich mix of bramble, plum and raspberry coming out on the nose. The palate has depth, lots of complexity; the fruits are encircled by tannins at the moment but the tannins feel ripe thus adding to the suppleness. The finish has depth of flavour and a fascinating mix of fruits.

The new winery - a phoenix rising out of the stony arid soil - aims to combine the best of old and new technology when completed: above ground, stainless steel, oak vats and gravity feeds; underground, a cellar designed to hold 2,800 oak barrels at a constant temperature and humidity. The three vineyards in the la Consulta region of Mendoza are planted to classic red varieties, with an emphasis on Tempranillo. Working with a number of local growers, Bodegas Fournier also buy in very good grapes from old vines - a system which actively encourages green harvest and low yields. The winemaker is Jose Spisso, previously from Alta Vista.
