Tasting Notes:
Available in cases of 6 only. The beauty of this exceptional 2009 vintage immediately shows in the bright purple colour and shimmering edge. Notes of cherries, plums and raspberries line a lively nose, following through to a full but spritely and elegant palate. There is an enduring combination of subtly and power with the rich ripeness balancing silky tannins and a lushes texture. This suave merlot is difficult to put down, even at this embryonic stage! Expect the finely-etch ed tannins to ease with time and become even softer and more stylish. Independents Note: Lots of black plums, ripe and sweet, flesh out the nose and palate. The ripeness of the tannins adds to the supple richness but behind all of the ripe sweet fleshiness there are some red fruits that help to balance ensuring that it is not jammy and the finish has a lighter feel. This is a joint venture between long standing friends Ernie Els and Jean Engelbrecht. The Englebrecht Els vineyards are located high up on the northern slopes of the Helderberg mountain. The stunning new winery was opened at the end of 2004. The winemaker is Louis Strydom. Ernie Els is one of South Africa's leading ambassadors and one of the most recognisable faces in the world of sport. His collaboration with Jean to make a world class wine has been an outstanding success.
